Both DD, AIR are in line for a mighty bounce back: Prakash Javadekar

Govt will 're-energise' both and bring back lost glory.

The state-owned television broadcaster Doordarshan (DD) and public radio broadcaster All India Radio (AIR) are in line for a mighty bounce back if the ‘Modi Sarkar’ has its way. Speaking at The Hindu Leadership Summit, Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Prakash Javadekar told a packed house at ‘GoaFest 2014’ that the newly inducted Central Government will “re-energise both” the Government media channels and bring back lost glory.

Javadekar added that he had already discussed the same with Prasar Bharati officials. “We want to make DD competitive in the current scenario add fantastic content”. In a not so veiled, but mild, threat to cable operators across the country, Javadekar said that he would refuse to listen to their grievance until Doordarshan was being aired by them in the primary band.

xG Technology Announces New Cognitive Radio Patent Award Latest Invention Enables Enhanced Interference Mitigation for Devices in Shared and Crowded Spectrum

xG Technology, Inc., a developer of wireless communications and spectrum sharing technologies, has announced that it has been awarded an important cognitive radio patent.

The patent, "Interference Mitigation Method for Single or MIMO Receiver Devices" (U.S.P.T.O.
#13/667,006) covers an innovation that describes a way of providing enhanced protection from interference to devices in shared and crowded spectrum environments. An essential aspect of the innovation is that it can be built into an LTE-compliant system.

With this latest patent award, xG Technology's intellectual property portfolio now includes 60 U.S. patent matters (50 issued) and 145 international patent matters (65 issued).

"This interference mitigation patent award represents an important addition to a core area of our technology foundation," said John Coleman, CEO of xG Technology. "As the reuse and sharing of spectrum become increasingly attractive options to alleviate the challenge of crowded frequencies, the risk of damaging interference grows. This interference mitigation innovation reduces that risk, thus enabling more reliable and efficient wireless communications. The ability to also support devices on LTE systems is especially significant, since LTE operators are deploying increasing numbers of small cells (micro, pico and femtocells) which can increase the possibility of interference. xG is committed to continuous innovation and to driving the growth and adoption of our unique, cost effective, and increasingly differentiated xMax solution."

On 29th of May, 2014, during a meet and greet between Dr. Harsh Vardhan, newly appointed Minister for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Dr. Rafeeq Masoodi, DDG, DCD (Development Communication Division), Doordarshan, the minister was presented with a copy of the newly released book by our DDG, ‘Barff par bane padhchin’ (Footprints in the Snow).

This is the latest Hindi translation of the Akademi award winning Kashmiri book ‘Sheen Te Votpd’ on behalf of the Sahitya Akademi. This translation encompasses the life and times of the Gujjar Community. It takes a special look at their daily lives, from the food they eat to the traditions that define and shape their culture. As this community prospers it has found the means to adapt to the changing years and with each season that passes we see them going from strength to strength. The Gujjar Community has found the perfect balance between the past and the present, traditions and changing times, which makes them an inherent part of the cultural hotpot we know as Kashmir. Dr. Masoodi has successfully been able to blend it with modern sensibility and aesthetics, thus, making this translation almost contemporary.

Dr. Masoodi has been a part and parcel of the Prasar Bharati machine where he has held various positions all over the country and is presently the Deputy Director General of the Development Communication Division (DCD) of Doordarshan at New Delhi. He has been the head of the Jammu and Kashmiri Academy of Art, Culture and Language from 2006-08. Prasar Bharati has bestowed him with the award for the ‘maximum revenue earned’ 6 times for his contribution. He has been conferred with the highest civilian award given by the State of Jammu and Kashmir (2006) as well as the Akademi award for Translation by the Sahitya Akademi (2004). This is his third book, the first being a Kashmiri translation of Bhisham Sahani’s classic ‘Tamas’, and the other is his collection of poetry in Kashmiri, ‘Panun dod panin dug’.

Dr. Harsh Vardhan graciously accepted the book remarking at the talent of our DDG, who has managed to undertake such an imminent project above and beyond his professional responsibilities towards Doordarshan. He also mentioned that he looking forward to more literary accomplishments of Dr. Masoodi.

Celebration of Foundation Day by AIR Sambalpur

All India Radio, Sambalpur celebrated its 52nd Foundation Day on 26th inst. in its office premises in a symbolical manner in collaboration with Akashvani Recreation Club, Sambalpur. In the evening, a cultural programme of song and dance was arranged before an invited audience. The weather, full of clouds hovering overhead with showers of rain falling intermittently blended with enchanting light and folk music by eminent artists of AIR, Sambalpur created an ambience of joy and jubilation. Smt.Suprabha Kumari Padhee and Smt.M.Shanti Sudha presented light music in Odia and Hindi respectively and on the other hand Ms.Lipika Bibhar & Shri Santosh Kumar Mishra performed typically well composed folk songs which mesmerised the audience. And at the end of the show, Sambalpuri folk dance presented by the artists of Kala O Kalakar, Dhanupali, Sambalpur - a team blended with typical Sambalpuri dance forms along with flamboyant costumes enchanted the audience in body and mind. At a time when Radio is facing stiff competition with the running of audio visual channels rampantly, this attempt of AIR, Sambalpur is quite unique to publicize itself and to be in the limelight in this part of the state since the activities, achievements and new programmes being highlighted amply in the local/state level newspapers and electronics media.

FM radio stations for Tihar Jail inmates launched

Two FM radio channels have been launched in Central Jail Nos. 2 and 3 in Tihar for entertainment of prison inmates. The two radio channels were launched yesterday by Vimlaa Mehra, the director general (Prisons).

The radio channels, along with an e-library in the Central Jail No. 2, was launched in collaboration with the Care Today Foundation for entertainment of prison inmates.

The radio channels will help prisoners engage in positive activities. Important informations are now being disseminated to the prisoners through them and this is also a major source of entertainment. The inmates are also being trained in radio jockeying.

The FM stations have been established to meet the twin objectives of entertainment and training of prisoners as radio jockey (RJ). The prisoners can engage themselves in creative activities and also get trained as RJ," said a prison official.

If prisoners want to listen to their favourite songs, they would have to send their request in advance to the RJs so that these may be aired, the official added
