Akashavani Thiruvananthapuram Station bagged the ‘Haritha Mudra Award’
Akashavani Thiruvananthapuram Station has bagged the ‘Haritha Mudra Award’ instituted by the Department of Agriculture, Government of Kerala. This is in recognition for the best ‘Farm Based Audio Programmes for the year 2014-15. The award, which is part of the State Agricultural Awards, is instituted to identify the best programmes that deal with the latest research and other developments in agriculture, that have contemporary relevance to the farmers. It is the first time an Akashavani station in Kerala gets this prestigious award.
It’s been 25 years since the Thiruvananthapuram Station started airing the daily ‘Vayalum Veedum’ (Farm & Home) programme. And now the station sets apart 6 hour each week for programmes that deal with agriculture and rural development. Every evening, agriculture enthusiasts flock the radio kiosk set up at the Trivandrum museum, eagerly anticipating the Farm and Home programme. The programme has remained a friend, guide and voice of the unorganized farmers across the state.
The programmes of Farm and Home section of AIR, Thiruvananhapuram include ‘Vayalum Veedum, Farm News, Radio Gramarangom, Gramakeralam and Nattarivu. These are planned and produced by Sri.Muraleedharan Thazhakara, Programme Executive (F&H).
Apart from this, the station also broadcasts live phone-in programme of 1 hour duration, focussing exclusively on farming. Agricultural Scientists, Experts from Agricultural department and Award Winning Farmers are invited as guests in this interactive programme. Award winning farmers are also given platforms to share their novel ideas and traditional practices through special programmes such as interviews, talks etc. It has also been a remarkable aim to promote farming in schools thus creating the much required interest in children towards farming. Akashvani has been helping the farmers convert the results of research work into field practices and thereby bringing about effective changes at the field level.
Considering above contributions made by Akashvani for the farming sector, it was endowed with the prestigious Haritha Mudra Award for Best Audio Programmes in Agriculture. The Award was presented to Sri. R. C. Gopal, Station Director and Shri. Muraleedharan Thazhakara, Programme Executive, Farm and Home at Kannur before a huge audience during the inauguration ceremony of South Indian Agriculture Festival organized by the Government of Kerala.
