AIR Pasighat, the first All India Radio station of Arunachal Pradesh celebrates its Golden Jubilee on 22nd April. Tree Plantation, Seminar ,felicitation of retired employees & Cultural Programmes to take place.

Arunachal Pradesh is having five Radio stations till date. These are AIR Itanagar, AIR Pasighat,AIR Tawang,AIR Tezu & AIR Ziro. A history was created when the first station of All India Radio in Arunachal Pradesh (Then NEFA) was inaugurated at the historical town of Pasighat on 6th March 1966. It was inaugurated by Late Kuttick Moyong, Political Assistant and a renowned political leader of that time. Initially the power of the transmitter was only 1.5 K.Watt covering only the township of Pasighat. The Office, Studio and Transmitter were all set up in one SP type wooden government quarter near the present Deputy Commissioner’s office. Late M.N. Raichaudhury, Programme Executive, who later retired as DDG, HQ New Delhi, was the first Programme Head of the Station. He joined in January 1966. Late P.K. Singh, Assistant Engineer who joined in February 1966, was the first Engineering Head. Shri Jatin Morang, who is retired now, joined AIR, Pasighat as the first announcer on contract basis on 1st February 1966. Later he along with Late Takit Darang joined as regular Announcer on 1st December 1966. The Station began its broadcast with Assamese as its medium of broadcast. Now the station serves a population of above 1 lakh covering a major portion of East Siang District, parts of West Siang, Upper Siang and Dibang Valley Districts of Arunachal Pradesh. The daily transmission starts at 1600 hrs and closes at 2200 hrs.The programmes are being b’cast through one transmitter of 10KW capacity on medium wave. Out of the six hours daily transmission, AIR Pasighat originates programmes for 4 hrs 20 minutes daily. All India Radio Pasighat has a very rich collection of folk songs, particularly of the Adi community some of which are very exclusive and rare. Today the station has more than 600 hours of archival recordings preserved in digital format. Initially the announcements were in Assamese language but after 30 years i.e. in 1996 Assamese language was replaced by Adi dialect.

To mark the completion of 50 years of AIR Pasighat, a day long function is being organized in Pasighat on 22nd April. At 0900 a.m. A plantation programme will take place within the campus followed by a seminar “To Reach The Unreach” at J.N.College (starting from 1030 a.m.).In the evening from 0600 p.m. a Cultural Programme is also being organized in the campus of AIR Pasighat. This cultural programme is also culmination of year long programmes which were organized from time to time as a part of Golden Jubilee Year. This programme will be relayed live from North Eastern Service of AIR ,Shillong. The service is available on DTH.On this occasion four ex- officials of AIR Pasighat are being felicitated. They are Mr Jatin Morang (Retired Announcer), Mr Kaling Borang (Retired PEX),Mr Sukumar Mengu( Retired Security Guard) & Mr Tagum Nonang( Retired Security Guard). A ZPCC meeting is taking place on 21st April in Pasighat in which representatives of all the AIR stations of North East are participating. It will be chaired by Shri D. N. 1. Wish you all the best All India Radio, Pasighat on your golden jubilee on 22nd April, 2016.

I feel nostalgic today for being associated with this station as a Programme Executive (Coordination) of the capital station of AIR Itanagar for as long as six years from 1996 to 2002 and working in tandem with the staff there in course of introduction and relay of various innovative programmes over the state hook-up. The warmth and the cordiality of the members of staff in their conduct and the willingness to own any responsibility that might be expected of them have been the hallmark of this station. My two little children growing in those years in the seemingly difficult situations of Arunachal Pradesh and now growing into responsible citizens add mint to my memories. It's a very emotional moment for me personally.

I wish that the station achieves several new milestones of success in the service of its people. All the very best!!
