“Deshathanima – Deshapperuma” – Broadcast series by All India Radio, Thiruvananthapuram
All India Radio, Thiruvananthapuram is starting a new programme titled, “Deshathanima, Deshapperuma”, a series of documentaries on various agricultural and related products, which have won Geographical Index to our land. This broadcast series will be having 30 episodes, highlighting various products. The broadcast time will be 7:40 PM on every Wednesday and the duration of the programme will be 20 minutes. We envisage to have a comprehensive study with insight and research based on the products which are of special importance to Kerala. Since these products are native of Kerala, the broadcast of the series also aimed to inculcate curiosity in the minds of the new generation youth of our state.
The broadcast will start from 1st June 2016, beginning with a documentary on ‘Madhya Thiruvithamcore Sarkkara’ (The jaggery of Central Travancore). Continuiing this on consecutive Wednesdays, we would take up 30 special products like Njavara Rice, Vazhakkulam Pineapple, Gandhakashala Rice, Vechoor Cow, Malabari Goat, Jeerakashala Sugandha Rice, Palakkadan Matta, Aranmula Mirror, Balaramapuram hand weaves etc. Every aspect of each of these products will be covered and the broadcast will be added and preserved in the sound archives of All India Radio. It is for the first time, that such an elaborate initiative is being taken up and presented by All India Radio, as informed by Shri. R C Gopal, the Station Director of All India Radio Thiruvananthapuram.
This programme is prepared by involving eminent scientists and experts on each of these topics. The broadcast series is directed by Shri. Muraleedharan Thazhakara, the Programme Executive of Farm & Home section of All India Radio, Thiruvananthapuram. This will be broadcast by Thiruvananthapuram and Alappuzha stations of All India Radio. As the programme will be broadcast through the Alappuzha Transmitter, it could be received across Kerala. Live streaming of the programme will also be available through the AIR Malayalam channel in Prasar Bharathi DTH and internet services.
Each of the products presented in this broadcast has a special value in the cultural as well as agricultural heritage of Kerala. By documenting this, All India Radio is playing its role as a public broadcaster, to record, preserve and promote the knowledge and resources of our Nation. Well researched and poetically presented series will be of enormous value for our people, as well as generations to come. Needless to say, this effort will also enhance the protection and encouragement for many of these products – our hidden treasures. Thus, it will re-emphasize the role of All India Radio, in service to our Nation.
