Switch on the TV & Learn: IIT Professors to Coach Engineering Aspirants on DTH Channels
In order to reduce the dependence of engineering aspirants on coaching centres and to reach students in rural India, professors from IITs across the country will soon provide coaching classes through four DTH channels. The initiative will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 15.
The four channels will be available through Doordarshan’s Free Dish DTH platform. Aspirants will need a set-top box to view them.
The video lectures will cover the entire syllabus of Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and will be organized by top professors from 6 IITs – Bombay, Chennai, Kharagpur, Delhi, Guwahati and Kanpur. IIT Delhi will be the chief coordinator of the programme. The Department of Space has agreed to allocate two transponders on a GSAT series satellite to telecast the lessons live. The videos will also be uploaded on YouTube for a much wider reach.
Professors will help students focus on conceptual understanding of the JEE syllabus, rather than rote learning. Furthermore, the HRD ministry has roped in the top 100 students who performed well in JEE, to assist the professors.“These students will act as assistant professors and prepare a module on which the professors will work,” Professor Rao, director of IIT Delhi told India Today.
Apart from this, the MHRD is also working on an IIT pal mobile application that will have top of the line study material in eleven languages, available for free.
