Technology Updates:New Mobile Viewpoint transmitter delivers HEVC HDR video

The new transmitter runs on the latest sixth generation Intel Media Server to optimise compression and quality.Mobile Viewpoint has announced a new bonding transmitter that delivers HEVC (H.265) HDR video running on sixth generation Intel processors, using Intel Media Server Studio Professional Edition to optimise HEVC compression. The new HEVC enabled software will be used in the Wireless Multiplex Terminal (WMT) AGILE high-dynamic range (HDR) back-of-the-camera solution and in its 19 inch FLEX IO encoding and O2 decoding products.

Mobile Viewpoint’s dedicated IP encoding and decoding appliances use Intel Quick Sync Video technology to deliver HDR H.265 encoded video. After optimising with Intel's Media Server Studio, Mobile Viewpoint noted power savings and improved quality. Mobile Viewpoint’s IP technology enables on-location broadcasters to go live using less bandwidth. “Intel processors with hardware HEVC encoding and sophisticated media processing software are helping to power Mobile Viewpoint’s live, high-resolution, reliable broadcasting solution so the world can stay better informed of fast-changing news and events on-the-go,” said Jeff McVeigh, Intel Software and Solutions Group vice president and visual computing products general manager.

Mobile Viewpoint managing director Michel Bais said: “The cooperation with Intel opens up a new platform for low power and high quality video encoding appliances using the Intel Media Server Studio Professional Edition with the latest Linux distributions. This, in combination with support and the availability of a complete range of processors, makes Intel our key encoding partner.”

“Extensive testing of all the major brands over 30 months showed that the Mobile Viewpoint range best matched our news gathering requirements," said Ian Brash, Technical Manager of Sky Sports News. "Their willingness and ability to write custom software enhances our user experience and matches our unique conditions. This is technology whose time has com.
