K’shetra AIR to resume spiritual programmes

The Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry has given its approval to restart broadcasting of two popular spiritual programmes from Akashwani Kurukshetra on regular basis. In a letter addressed to Haryana Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies Karan Dev Kamboj early this month, I&B Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said commentary on the Bhagvad Gita and the Ramcharitmanas would be reintroduced.
Sources in the All-India Radio (AIR) said the local station had restarted producing Manas Gaan and Gita Sandesh for 10-minute slots in the morning and evening sessions, respectively. However, Prasar Bharti has yet to take a decision on the fate of several popular community-oriented programmes aired earlier by the Kurukshetra station. Radio station was producing nine hours of programmes daily on various subjects which were suspended from June 5 onwards. Ahead of its silver jubilee celebrations, Prasar Bharti had stopped broadcasting all community-based talk shows and cultural programmes produced locally. “The station successfully produced interactive programmes on youth, women, children, health and other social issues. Dial-in and other programmes had impressive audience participation and it should also be restarted,” said a programme compere associated with the public broadcaster for the past two decades.

On June 9, The Tribune had first highlighted the issue where more than 50 casual radio announcers and technicians became redundant. The move had invited a strong reaction from regular radio listeners. It was blamed that the Central authorities converted it into a direct relay destination to air entertainment programmes alone since June. Former interim PM Gulzari Lal Nanda was instrumental in establishing the radio station here to propagate message of the Bhagvad Gita. .............
