Information and Broadcasting Minister Venkaiah Naidu has agreed to consider the long-pending demand for a Programme Generating Facility (PGF) at Doordarshan (DD) in Dharwad.Dharwad MP Pralhad Joshi said this in a press release from New Delhi. Mr. Joshi, who submitted a memorandum to Mr. Naidu, said Dharwad was known as the cultural centre and had produced legends like Bhimsen Joshi, Gangubai Hangal, Pt. Mallikarjun Mansur, Pt. Basavaraj Rajguru among others.
Jnanpith awardees Da. Ra. Bendre, Girish Karnad, and V.K. Gokak hailed from the region and being a centre of high cultural values, Dharwad deserved a PGF, he said. Mr. Joshi also pointed out that the existing facility at Bengaluru focussed mainly on issues related to south Karnataka.Mr. Joshi met Prasar Bharati Chairman Surya Prakash to press upon him to expedite setting up the PGF.
Ever Since the high-power transmission centre of DD was set up in Dharwad, there has been a demand for the Programme Generating Facility.
