Inspiration:Bronze-Tinged Happiness: A Domestic Helps’ Daughter Made Her Mother Proud at Judo Nationals

Twelve-year-old Sharmila may not have the means and resources to have the best, but she certainly knows how to make the best of what she has.The resident of Jalandhar has proven that nothing can stop one from achieving their goals by winning a bronze medal in judo in the Khelo India national-level competitions in the Under-14 category. The youngster, who proved that there is no substitute for hard work, participated in the 23 kg category in the championship organised by the ministry of youth affairs and sports, held in Jaipur.

Sharmila lives in a one-room setting with her mother and her two siblings. Her mother, who works as a domestic help, has been the only earning member of the family since their father left home. However, Sharmila was determined to bring some cheer into their lives and worked hard towards her goal. She used to dedicatedly practise every day with her brother and ensured that she maintained a weight of 23 kg, as advised by her coach, so that she could participate in that category.

Sharmila’s mother, who says that she works extremely hard to ensure that her children eat and study well, is ecstatic by her daughter’s win. Her daughter’s happiness too knows no bounds.

“I will never leave judo in my life, isse bhi zyada medals jeet kar, mamma ko khush karna hai (I want to win even more medals and make my mother happy), ” she told Hindustan Times
