‘Karshaka Sandhya’ – An Evening for Farmers and Listeners as a Prelude to ‘Vayalum Veedum’ Golden Jubilee Celebrations of All India Radio
The evening of May 1st 2017 at the Napier Museum premises witnessed a unique and simple function. ‘Karshaka Sandhya’ – the Evening for Farmers, was organised by All India Radio Thiruvananthapuram near the Radio Kiosk at the Museum premises on the evening of 1st May 2017. This was organised as a prelude to the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of ‘Vayalum Veedum’ (Farm and Home) broadcast of All India Radio.The function was very unique in its conduct. It was attended by farmers, various officials from Agriculture and allied departments, People’s Representatives, staff of AIR and listeners of All India Radio from all walks of life. The function was conducted near the Radio Kiosk in Museum premises, where so many people gather every evening to listen to AIR broadcast. All those gathered took a farmer’s pledge to grow at least one vegetable in their house, using organic ways.
This Farmer’s Pledge was administered by Dr. Raju Narayanaswami IAS, Principal Secretary Agriculture and Agricultural Production Commissioner, Government of Kerala. The gathering was addressed by Adv. Rakhi Ravikumar, Deputy Mayor of Thiruvananthapuram. Following the pledge, all those who gathered lighted traditional earthen lamps to mark the Golden Jubilee of ‘Vayalum Veedum’ broadcast. A light refreshment, consisting of traditional food and medicinal coffee prepared by farmers themselves, was distributed to all those who gathered. The function was widely appreciated by all and marked the relation and importance of ‘Vayalum Veedum’ and All India Radio with the Farming Community in the State.
