Pay Only For TV Channels You Want to Watch! - TRAI’s New Order to Kick In on Dec 29

Now you can have a separate tailor-made package of TV channels, without paying extra, thanks to the new order by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).

According to the new order, all the subscribed channels will be provided to the customers at a lower cost. This will allow customers to choose which channels they want to watch and pay accordingly for those!

As opposed to the earlier practice, where the distribution platform operators (DPOs) and broadcasters, such a DTH and cable operators, would include a list of channels ‘free of cost’, without having to give a detailed rate sheet. The new order calls for more transparency. Hence, broadcasters will no longer be allowed to put together ‘free channels’ with the paid channels, or include high definition (HD) channels with the standard definition (SD) channels.

Instead, now they will have to publish channel rates, and are allowed to charge a maximum of Rs 19 per channel, monthly, in a package of channels. Owing to this, under the new order, the customers will have to pay a minimum of Rs 130 each month to access 100 free-to-air standard definition channels (SD), which will include 24 mandatory channels from Prasar Bharti. Also, after an additional payment of Rs 20, they will be able to access 25 more SD channels.

In the current system, although customers were provided with an overwhelming number of channels, many would end up paying for the channels they do not even watch, and this order aims to remedy that flaw!

The order also mandates for each channel to display its rate or MRP on the TV screen, using an electronic programme guide. As a breather, distributors and broadcasters are allowed to offer channel bouquets, provided that all of it is done transparently with all the rates displayed on the TV screens.

As per the implantation schedule, TRAI has notified all the service providers to complete the preparation for migration to the new framework by December 28....

Inspiration - Brilliant Karnataka Scientist Who Just Won the ‘Woman of Discovery’ Award!

Dr Krithi Karanth, a leading conservation scientist in India, has undeniable expertise in the field of wildlife conservation.

The brilliant scientist from Mangaluru was recently chosen as a recipient of the 2019 Women of Discovery Award by WINGS Worldquest, an organisation that supports women scientists and recognises them for their extraordinary work in their respective fields.

Dr Karanth was chosen as a winner alongside other accomplished women such as Dr Lacy Lichentenfeld, Mande Holford and Darlene Lim.

Born in Mangaluru to a family of wildlife enthusiasts, Dr Karanth grew up learning about forests, animals and the need to conserve these precious resources. Her father is a Tiger Biologist, and her grandfather was a leading environmentalist.

Speaking to Shenomics, she said, “I had a pretty unusual childhood. My father is a very well known Tiger Biologist and conservationist, so I spent a lot of my childhood watching animals and [travelling] with him. I was definitely interested in being outdoors, watching animals, and just being in nature but I also saw the difficulties he faced… and so I never wanted to even remotely pursue a career that was like his.”

For the past 20 years, Dr Karanth has focused her research in India, conducting “macro-level studies assessing patterns of species distributions and extinctions, impacts of wildlife tourism, consequences of voluntary resettlement, land-use change, and human-wildlife interactions.”

Her first project was in Bhadra, Karnataka, in 2002 where she studied the voluntary resettlement of people and the livelihood concerns that arose as a result. She is currently working on a project called Wildseve which has helped over 7000 families file wildlife-compensation claims and receiving their rightful benefits. Through the years, she has also mentored more than a 100 scientists from India, Australia, the UK as well as the USA, inspiring them to strive for the betterment of our wildlife and studying how human activities affect it.

Inspiration - Homai Vyarawalla – First Lady of the Lens.

As she had the support of her liberal parents, she did not have to face many obstacles with her choice, be it her love life or her career. The 1930s’ India, in the wake of World War II, was the first background of Homai’s photojournalism. She started working with a magazine named ‘The Illustrated Weekly of India.’ Many of her works with this magazine became famous photographs later. However, she still did not gain her fame as her photographs were often published under her husband’s name who was a photographer for the Times of India.

In between the year of 1940-1942, Homai started earning her own name . She has many photographs of famous politicians under her name. Reportedly, her favorite subject was Jawaharlal Nehru. Most of her photographs were published under a pseudonym, ‘Dalda 13’.

Her photography career took a huge turn after her husband died in 1969. She moved in with her son Farouq and started living in Pilani. She left her photography career forever.
Later she gave all her works to Alkazi Foundation. In 2010, Homai received First National Photo Award for Lifetime Achievement. And in the year of 2011, she was awarded Padma Vibhushan. She passed away on 15th January 2012 due to several breathing complications at the age of 98.

She is the officer of a two and a half million armed forces. Tanushree performs the drug mafia elimination responsibilities. She brings awareness to girls as an ambassador for the 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' program.

Tanushree Rajasthan girl made BTEech Electronics, Communications in Government Engineering College, Bikaner. There is a good reason why she is not in the red carpet of the software sector and that she is entering the Armed Forces. She is an NCC cadet. Firing, horse riding, piloting, and camping. That's why he's interested in the defense and the craze on the uniform.
Tanushree took up the task of eradicating an anesthetic mafia in the state of Punjab. The situation toured the border villages to assess the severity of the situation. There is no difference between males, older people, babies, women and girls are also addicted to drugs.  It is a battleground in Border Security, which does not differ from the time of peace. Be constantly alert. Kashmir, Gujarat, Punjab ... Everywhere you have to fight with each issue.

"Do not kill the babies in the womb, come to life on earth. Do not be discriminated against them and do the benefits, "said a security official without telling the big stars.
Tanushree  is the only thing to tell the girl's parents ... "Grow girls and boys equally. The idea that both are equal is to start with home. Only then do not fear the abuse. If the girl is brave, the boys are afraid to harass her. If you are able to find the confidence that the girls are not less than anything. Their thoughts and ambitions are on top of that.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has helped popularise sports

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s radio address, ‘Mann Ki Baat’, recently aired its 50th episode. With time, it has come to define national priorities. shows the depth of similarities shared by every Indian, despite being divided by geographies or language. In his oft-spoken themes, sports has been a constant.

Despite universal appeal, sports in India received a stepmotherly treatment from both the government and the people. With parents prioritising studies over sports and institutional support not forthcoming, it became a difficult career choice. However, in the past few years, there has been a burgeoning of a sporting culture in the country. The enthusiasm for sports other than cricket is visible, with more and more athletes emerging from various fields becoming marketable faces because of their growing popularity.

During ‘Mann Ki Baat’, the Prime Minister has been mentioning the laurels won by Indian athletes in global tournaments. For instance, when the Indian blind cricket team won the T20 World Cup, the Prime Minister in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address, made it a point to mention their remarkable feat and what it meant for the nation.

In another instance, India had bagged more than 60 medals at the Commonwealth Games 2018 with some unforgettable performances in shooting, wrestling, table tennis and badminton. The Prime Minister said: “India’s performance in the Commonwealth Games was par excellence... Are you aware that out of the wrestlers who represented India, each one of them returned with a medal? ...Fifteen year old Indian shooter Anish Bhanwala became the youngest sportsperson to win a gold for India...”

It is not just the sportsperson but also various sports which have received a boost in the country because Modi decided to shine a light on them. In India, football never took off due to lack of resources and support. In 2017, the FIFA Under-17 World Cup was organised in the country. A year before the tournament, Modi urged the nation on ‘Mann Ki Baat’ to gear up for the world event by building a welcoming atmosphere of football. All through the year, he kept on reminding people of the impending event and asking people to share their suggestions on how to organise the tournament well.

A sustained effort could be seen on the part of the Prime Minister to inculcate a sporting culture among people at large. The PM’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ has proven to be an effective medium to ensure that his vision for sports in India emerges from ground up and is sustained through people’s participation, like his other appeals from the same platform.
